Another Story + Another Update

I have always been accident-prone. Very accident-prone. Things just seem to happen to me, whether it's my fault or not.

One day, during the summer I was 7 or 8, my sister and I, along with our neighbor, who was my sister's age and our bosom friend, decided to ride down the hill in front of our house in a wagon (brilliant idea, right? Three girls, a wagon, and a steep hill. What could possibly go wrong?).

We flew down the hill at break-neck speed several times and nothing happened, so we decided to go "one more time."

We zipped down the hill and crashed into our other neighbor's front porch, sending my sister and the neighbor girl flying from the wagon, while my head was snapped backwards a bit harder than I like it to be snapped.

Grumbling about "the dumb porch", we picked ourselves up and hauled the wagon back up the hill.

"One more time," we said, because we didn't know to stop while we were ahead.

We got back into the wagon, and set sail, picking up speed as we went. We were a good 10 feet from ANY trees when we started, but I, who decidedly did not know how to steer a wagon, managed to ram into a tree at the last second.

The other two girls fell out again, but my foot had been sticking out the front of the wagon, and my poor toe got crunched between the tree and the wagon.

Daddy, who had been mowing that afternoon, of course had to pick that ONE TIME to stop and watch us. He was nearly doubled over, howling with laughter when he came to see if we were all alright.

It turns out my toe was broken, and I had to wear a boot for a while, which I thought was just the greatest calamity to ever befall the earth, but thankfully nobody was too seriously injured.

                            An Update~

This summer flew by so fast. We weren't overly busy, but it seemed like every time I blinked, a month went past.

Several blinks later, we are in December and nearing Christmas.

Mama's parents and her youngest brother will be here for Christmas. They're Amish, so one of my parents will pick them up on Friday, I think, and then I'm not sure how long they'll be here.

Since Christmas is on Sunday, our church is having a candlelight service on Christmas Eve, and then we won't have church Christmas morning. Our pastor said that if we don't burn the church down, we might continue to do this on Christmas Eve.

My sister had her Christmas cello recital on Thursday evening. She would throttle me if I put in any videos, so you will just have to take my word for it that she sounded great : )

I was sick almost all last week. 'Tis the season, I suppose!

Speaking of which... my sickness somewhat kept me from practicing my newest piano song (I say "somewhat" because I am a terrible procrastinator and the fact that I don't know my song is not entirely to be blamed upon the fact that I was sick), and I unfortunately have a lesson this evening.

Thankfully, this is my last lesson for a while. I have off till the middle of January because of the holidays.

Also, my teacher is getting married on New Year's Eve, which is deeply unfortunate, because it means I won't get extra time off from lessons over his honeymoon : (

Anyhoo, I had best run. My little sister is squalling and I better go see what's wrong. Merry Christmas!

                            Auf Wiedersehen,
